Homework Guidelines

This year your child will be responsible for reading nightly for at least 15 minutes and completing a Reading Log with the date, title of book, minutes read, and a parent signature. The Reading Log is due on Fridays.

Along with the nightly reading, your child should be practicing his/her weekly spelling words at least 2-3 nights per week. Each week your child will be bringing home a Spelling Tic-Tac-Toe sheet that has different engaging ways that your child can practice his/her words. They should do at least 2-3 activities. The Spelling Tic- Tac-Toe sheet is due on Fridays and should have the activities that your child chose colored and a parent signature.

Two nights per week, there will also be a math worksheet that reinforces what has been learned in class. These worksheets are to be done the night they are assigned/sent home and returned the next day.

We also ask that the students practice their addition and subtraction facts to 20. This can be done as frequently as you feel needed and in any way that works for your child (flash cards, computer games, drill, Xtra Math online program, etc). The expectation is that the children know these facts and can say the answers with automaticity. This means without having to use their fingers or "figure it out."

Homework should take your child approximately 10-15 minutes per night with an additional 15 minutes of reading per day. Thank you for your support at home!
